Guard shot at shopping centre

A cash-in-transit security guard was shot at Key West Shopping Centre shortly after 9am this morning.

News journalist Marizka Coetzer was in the centre when the shooting occurred near entrance three.

Coetzer said three suspects fled the scene after the guard was shot in the leg.

“The suspects poured petrol on the cash-in-transit van and fled the scene in a silver Toyota Corolla,” Coetzer said.

Police and the local Community Policing Forum arrived shortly after followed by paramedics.

The area is currently closed off to the public.
