Was it a business deal gone wrong? Or was an elderly man just brutally murdered and dumped in the boot of his vehicle?

More details surrounding the death of a 64-year-old man, whose body was found in a parked vehicle, have come to light after CCTV footage was made available.

On the evening of 10 May, members from the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) along with police made a shocking discovery after a suspiciously parked vehicle was spotted in Premier Street, Krugersdorp North.

The patrollers from the Sector 3 CPF and police had been called out after the victim’s worried wife contacted the CPF to enquire if they had seen his vehicle anywhere.

Patrolling members confirmed seeing the vehicle in Krugersdorp North and alerted police who reacted to the call out.

Police noted the parked vehicle on the wrong side of the road at about 11pm and upon approaching the vehicle, they noticed the keys of the vehicle still in the ignition and proceeded to investigate.

When they opened the boot of the vehicle they discovered the body of a 64-year-old man covered with a black plastic bag.

He had an injury to the head and his neck was blue, presumably from being strangled.

The victim’s son and daughter-in-law, met up with police on the scene where the daughter-in-law positively identified the elderly man as her father-in-law.

After the family was informed of the tragic discovery, police learned that Anthony Scholefield, a local broker, had a meeting with a client at a local shopping center earlier that evening around 6pm.

CCTV footage from a local primary school situated near the scene shows the vehicle driving into the street and parking on the opposite side at around 8.50pm.

The vehicle is however parked in a blind spot and the perpetrators cannot be seen in the footage.

From the footage police could see that the vehicle came up 3rd Street presumably from the CBD’s direction and turned left into Premier Street.

A bystander down the street told officials on the scene that he saw three males climb out of the vehicle and walk down 4th Street.

“Police is currently investigating a case of murder. The community is asked to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in this horrible act,” Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale.
