Police reach out to homeless

Members of the police's Cluster Men's Forum reached out to a local homeless shelter.

Krugersdorp police officers went beyond the call of duty to help their fellow man and woman when they gave a bit of their time at the Tower of Life Homeless Shelter recently.

On Friday, 18 March, the police’s Cluster Men’s Forum visited the shelter to encourage the occupants to be the eyes and ears of the community. The Forum also donated clothes to the shelter during their visit.

During the course of the evening, the Forum members along with just over 60 people who slept at the shelter that night, joined in the group in prayer. The secretary of the Forum, Constable Lucky Matome, said police need the community to help them fight crime.

“The little that you do may have a big impact that will eventually change the world,” he added.

For R20 a night at Tower of Life, a homeless person is provided with one of the 80 available beds, linen, pillows and blankets, a shower with shampoo and conditioner and a plate of hot food. On Wednesdays, the team from Dynamix, an addiction fighting support group, pays them a visit.
