Pediatric ward revamped and renovated

Bright colours and new equipment for Leratong Hospital's pediatric ward.

Leratong Hospital now boasts with a newly revamped and renovated Pediatric Ward.

Although the ward has been functioning and operating as normal since December, the official handover took place on Wednesday 24 February with staff, partners and sponsors present.

The proceedings kicked off with the National Anthem followed by a prayer to bless the official opening and the ward.

Dr Grey Dube, Leratong Hospital CEO welcomed and thanked all the sponsors for the part they played in this project.

The ward was painted beautifully in rainbow colours and it also received new equipment.

“Although the costs of the revamp were high, the rewards are even higher and greater as the unit is now more child-friendly, better equipped and more efficient,” Dube said.

Dianne Pols, director of the South African Medical and Education Foundation also spoke about the new colourful playroom and lecture room.

The lecture room, which was sponsored by the South African Breweries, will provide doctors and nurses a space to share ideas and learn about new technology in the medical field.

Doreen Kosi, executive public affairs for Adcock Ingram Health Care, told the guests about the humble beginnings of the company, which took place in their own back yards 125 years ago.

Dr Mazamisa from the Department of Health with Leratong Hospital CEO Dr Grey Dube in the new playroom added to the renovated Pediatric Ward.

Adcock Ingram, one of the sponsors was founded as a little pharmacy in Adcock Street in Chamdor in 1890.

Kosi discussed the importance of the antenatal unit and how it could mean the difference between life and death in both an expecting mother and her unborn baby.

The partners, sponsors and guests were all taken to the ward to see how everyone’s hard work and funds came together.
