Motorists on their way to work were alarmed to learn that 1st Street was closed off to make way for emergency services early this morning.
It is believed that a house in First Street in Krugersdorp North went up in flames at around 6am.
First on the scene were Sector 3’s CPF patrollers who closed off the road to make way for the Mogale City Emergency Services and West Rand Disaster Management teams who battled the flames.
A Dowry Reaction unit and paramedics from ER24 along with Mogale City’s Traffic Department and later the police arrived to take statements and assist on the scene.
An emotional resident who lives in the house was surrounded by friends as they watched the house burn down.
Burnt rubble and dust were all that remained after the devastating fire was fully extinguished around two hours later.
A security guard from a local high school in the area was the first person on the scene and assisted in clearing the road and contacting emergency services.
Fortunately no-one else was in the house at the time of incident.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under police investigation.
