Traffic came to a standstill to make way for an emergency helicopter landing following a serious accident involving a young man on a motorcycle.

An accident on the corner of Paardekraal Road and Luipaard Street around noon yesterday, near the CBD claimed the life of a young man.

17-year-old Pieter-Schalk Grobbelaar, a pupil from Hoërskool Noordheuwel, was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a bakkie, leaving him seriously injured.

Traffic piled up as Sector 4 and 5’s Community Policing Forum (CPF) members closed the road to make way for an emergency helicopter landing.

Afternoon traffic was backed up in Luipaard Street following a serious accident involving a young man on a motorcycle.

Paramedics soon followed as the CPF’s First Aid Responders and ER24 paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise the young man.

An ER24 helicopter on scene ready to airlift the seriously injured patient to hospital.

After he was stabilised on the scene, he was airlifted to hospital for further medical treatment for critical injuries sustained during the accident.
