[VIDEO] Documentary shows Kdorp’s sad decline into drug hell

Not to be missed, a vivid look into the other side of the sex and drug war in Krugersdorp.

The community can expect to be shocked when a production company will tell a different side of the story of the sex and drug trade in Krugersdorp.

Following the many articles published about the pimps, prostitutes, drugs lords and dealers, Urban Brew Studios met up with the News to do a documentary about the ongoing investigation.

For weeks the News took the team to various experts and role players in the field to shoot the documentary about the drug epidemic in Krugersdorp.

Interviews were conducted with Tiffany – a local prostitute, Gert Jonker – the Community Policing Forum (CPF) executive committee chairperson, Melodie van BrakelThe Cradle of Hope (a shelter for vulnerable women and children) founder and local police officers.

Gert Jonker is being interviewed by Dean Thompson.

Uncomfortable questions about the drug and sex trade were answered as the team was taken into the slums to get a first-hand experience of the troubling situation.

Shocking footage of Tiffany, explaining the force behind her addiction was shot in Coronation Park while she was taking a hit of heroin.

The team visited The Bethany House Trust, a local orphanage, where Jonker discussed the drastic rise in drug abuse and drug-related crimes and how it is affecting the community directly.

Van Brakel told the team of her journey with Tiffany who relapsed a number of times before ultimately running back into the arms of her pimp and drugs.

The News also was put in the spotlight, where journalist Marizka Coetzer was interviewed about her various articles and ongoing investigation about the trade.

The News, along with the CPF escorted the production team through town one night to give them a glimpse of the action, and what Krugersdorp residents are faced with every day.

“It is amazing and shocking at the same time to see the stories coming to life and being retold in a whole new medium, for a brand-new audience,” Coetzer said.

Be sure not to miss the 48-minute documentary titled Mogale – A city at War on Monday 1 February at 8.55pm on DStv’s ED channel 190.
