Mogale accounts a R50 million mess

About R60 million later, the new billing system still is not working.

Since Mogale City Local Municipality’s new R50 million billing system was introduced in July, it is still not functional and municipal bills are still incorrect, consequently forcing the municipality to migrate back to the old billing system.

The municipality has implemented the new system, LIMMS, and planned on migrating from the old system, BIQ, because they used it without paying the owner any fees for the use thereof.

According to Dennis Pretorius, the Democratic Alliance’s Financial Spokesperson in Mogale City, in an agreement between BIQ owner Danie van Heerden and the municipality, R7 million in fees have been paid to him for the use of BIQ.

“Now, a further R3 million will be given to him so that Mogale can use the system until the end of June 2016,” he told the News.

The BIQ system will be used until the new system is functional.

Residents like the News’ editor, Janine Viljoen, explained how her bills are different every month.

“In September we were charged double our normal amount. We reported it and got a rather speedy response with the correct bill. But this month, our account was a mere R70,” she explained.

According to Amanda de Lange, the Leader of the Freedom Front Plus in the West Rand, if you feel your account is wrong in some way, the municipality must investigate and come to a conclusion.

“And if they plan to cut your electricity, you must receive a notice of their actions 14 days beforehand.”
