Disturbing cellphone footage of a 16-year-old boy from Krugersdorp killing a jackal was brought to the attention of Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) to help create animal cruelty awareness.
The video, along with the information about the minor, were sent to Claw in order to take action against the minor involved.
In the video, the minor is seen taking a spade and brutally hitting a jackal in a open field while a friend records the incident.
It is not clear where the footage was taken, but it was confirmed that the minor is a Krugersdorp resident and goes to school in the area.
“What is most upsetting about the video is that the minor seems to be taking pleasure in the pain of the animal,” Cora Bailey, founder of Claw said.
She further told the News that although a jackal is seen as a pest animal, one can not help but wonder if the minor would move his brutal pleasures to other animals or even humans.
Because the minor in the video is 16 years of age, by law, his identity must be protected. However, since the minor will probably not be prosecuted, Bailey feels he should be named and shamed because of the brutal act he committed.
