Police officers might be granted bail

They are being charged with a schedule five offence which is considered a very serious offence.

The three police officers who is currently in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice will possibly be granted bail.

The four constables, who were involved in the execution-style killing of robbery suspect Khulekani Mpanza which took place in October in Lewisham, Titus Mabela, Jason Segole, Puleng Sebetwa and Dipuo Chipu have already appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court last week. Chipu was the only constable released on bail of R5 000 and not charged with murder due to the role she played in the incident.

News journalist Marizka Coetzer, who is in court, said the affidavits of Mabela, Segole and Sebetwa were read in the full to the brim court room and that their bail application might be successful.

If bail is granted, it will be based on the grounds that the officers are not flight risks and do not have any previous convictions.

Coetzer says that the court room is filled with police members, correctional services members, media, members of the police union and community members, all in support of the officers.
