Rescue efforts continue for puppy stuck in ditch

Day two: emotions are running high as rescuers try to save a puppy stuck in a water ditch.

Residents, volunteers and even emergency services personal are currently trying everything in their power to free a puppy that is stuck in a ditch.

Charmaine Booysens from The 9th Day  Animal Shelter, an animal rehabilitation and re-homing organisation received a phone call about the puppy stuck in the ditch behind Jan de Klerk High School yesterday.

Since then members of Sector 5 Community Policing Forum (CPF) together with Netcare 911, Mogale City’s Emergency Management Services, Thompsons Security and other volunteers have tried with all their might to free the puppy, but to no avail.

Puppy still stuck in a ditch after many failed attempts by the rescuers.

First they tried to lure the puppy with food, but failed as the pup runs every time it sees a human.

They also tried to use a cat trap, but still no luck.

After an exhausting day of trying to free the pup, Booysens left a sheet, food and water for the pup for the night.

On their arrival this morning they noticed the food and water were finished and the sheet was wrapped as if someone had slept there last night.

Another failed attempt to free the puppy which is stuck in a ditch.

Again the group of people returned today to try and free the pup but are still on the scene and desperate to save the dog.

The dog is believed to be between nine and ten weeks of old and looks like a German Shepard cross breed.
