Businessman murdered for a TV set

A security company responded to the incident where a well-known businessman was murdered in Muldersdrift.

Well-known businessman Mike Danker was found dead in his cottage in Muldersdrift after family had failed to get a hold of him over the weekend.

It is believed his body was discovered after a family member couldn’t get a hold of him on Saturday to notify him of the passing of his mother the previous night. The victim had a gunshot wound to his upper body and was found dead in front of the open door of his residence.

Drift Reaction Security released the following statement on Facebook: “During the early hours of Saturday morning 12 September the control room received a panic signal from the premises. The client reported she heard gunshots in the vicinity. Tactical units investigated and checked the premises but could not find any suspects or problems. Not all the cottages on the premises are linked to our control centre.

“The units then assisted the client to lock her gate and door and left. The following afternoon at about 2pm the body of a resident was found laying outside his cottage. He had one gunshot to his abdomen. The only item missing from the cottage was a TV set. We cannot go into more detail about the incident but can confirm that Muldersdrift detectives and our Specialised Investigation Unit are investigating the incident. There is a lot of speculation at this stage, however we cannot comment as the case is at a sensitive stage.”

The 59-year-old was born and bred in Krugersdorp. He attended Monument Primary and matriculated at Krugersdorp High School in 1973.

The following year Danker joined the army where he served under the Para-bats. After serving for the army Danker joined their family’s clothing shop, Danker Outfitters for a year before working at a local brewery and later joining computer giants IBM for some time.

He then decided to settle in the catering industry where he continued to grow his business by catering at various functions.

“On behalf of all of us who knew our mate, the late Mike Danker, firstly let me wish all his family especially his two boys, Jarrod and Vaughan our sincere condolences and strength ahead. Mike always was a headstrong character admired and loved by many. He leaves a void in all our lives. We will miss him, but never forget him. He now may be at peace, but at what price?” Larry Friedman, a close friend said.
