Woman dies after driver ignores stop street

One woman is dead after the diver of a Polo decided to ignore the stop street in Van Riebeeck Street.

A 54-year-old woman was declared dead after the driver of a VW Polo skipped the stop street on Van Riebeeck Street in Quellerie Park yesterday, 16 August.

It is believed the VW, with four occupants, skipped the stop street intersection crashing into the woman’s vehicle.

Mogale City’s Traffic Department, the Krugersdorp police, paramedics, First Aid Respondents and members of Sector 3’s Community Policing Forum were called to the scene.

However, the Facebook page Krugersdorp Network Community was bombarded with comments after a reader posted a comment about a body lying on the corner of Van Riebeeck and Blommestein Streets just after 8am.

The accident scene which claimed the life of a 54-year-old woman.

Rumours surfaced that the woman’s body was found outside of her vehicle after the crash which is possibly due to the impact of the accident.

The First Aid Respondents found the details of the woman by tracing her number plate on the scene and they also had the daunting task of notifying the family of the tragedy.

The News received word that the deceased dropped off her daughter-in-law at work in Krugersdorp North minutes before the accident which claimed her life.

Traumitised family and curious residents stood around the scene as they waited for the pathology team to remove the body.

Two of the occupants of the Polo were taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries and the driver was seen leaving the scene with police.
