Two suspects from Ga-Mogale Informal Settlement were found and arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed nine millimeter pistol and ammunition, with two other crimes linked to them.
“The suspects were arrested by the members of the Krugersdorp Trio Task team, following a lead that they were given by the members of Magaliesburg Crime Prevention,” Constable Rebecca Phithi, police spokesperson, said.
Upon further investigation by the Magaliesburg police, they found the suspects to be linked to a business robbery last month and a hijacking about a week ago.
“It is claimed that the two hijackers were involved in a collision while driving the hijacked vehicle, then feeling on foot and leaving the vehicle behind.”
The suspects were also found in possession of cellular telephones which can be linked to the business robbery. The pistol will be sent for forensic evidence in order to determine further criminal links.
“The fact that an unlicensed firearm has been taken out of circulation is a positive step in addressing priority crimes,” the station commander Lieutenant Colonel Morebodi, said.
The 21 and 23-year-old suspects will appear in court soon.
