Homeowner catches burglars

After searching around the area, a Tarlton homeowner caught the men who burgled his home.

Two men and one minor were arrested after a homeowner, whose house they broke into, apprehended them and alerted the police.

The suspects, aged 17, 19 and 26, were arrested by Tarlton Police on Monday 3 August.

“The suspects were claimed to have committed the offence at Greenway Farms in Tarlton,” Constable Lucky Matome, Police Spokesperson, said.

“The homeowner told police he left his house to do business in Krugersdorp and upon his return noticed that his sliding door was forced open. He realised that his house was burgled and some of his belongings were stolen.”

The homeowner then went on to search the area around his house, where he saw two men with one carrying a backpack similar to the one that was taken from his house. The men ran away as soon as they were approached by the complainant.

The homeowner decided to corner the men and apprehended them.

“It is not clear if the man cornered them himself or if he had assistance from the community,” Matome explained.

Further investigation by the homeowner led to the apprehension of a third suspect. All three men were then arrested by police.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

The 17-year-old suspect was detained at a juvenile detention facility.
