Books donated for Madiba Day

The campaign saw more than 3 000 literature books in 11 languages donated to residents.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s Executive Mayor also honoured Nelson Mandela’s vision of bettering one’s community by taking part in the 67 minutes for Madiba campaign.

Executive Mayor Councillor Koketso Calvin Seerane, in partnership with Edna Molewa, Minister of Environmental Affairs and Molebatsi Bopape, Gauteng MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture donated books to residents as part of the Drop All and Read campaign.

Seerane spent more than 67 minutes contributing towards a good cause by donating books to residents and selected families of Kagiso.

The campaign saw more than 3 000 literature books in 11 languages donated to residents.

On the sixth annual International Nelson Mandela Day the entourage started the day-long activity at the Chief Mogale Community Hall.

They led the march through Kagiso Avenue leading into Themba and Utlhanong Streets and back to the hall, where the formalities where concluded.

Dressed in the orange overalls, the team and community members painted Kagiso orange when they handed out books to the residents, commuters and onlookers who were lining the streets to watch the proceedings.

Addressing the community of Kagiso and other dignitaries from various spheres of government, Seerane said, “We are happy as a municipality to be part of this day to celebrate the birthday of our iconic leader. We want to thank all community members who took part in this event, more so the youth who came to celebrate with us this important day on the calendar of the whole universe.

As a city we would like to take this opportunity to urge our people to make a commitment to making sure that we better the lives of our people.”
