Police finally managed to close in on the suspects.

The ATM scamsters who were operating in both the Krugersdorp and Roodepoort areas were finally arrested last week.

The first incident of a woman who was robbed of her whole salary in matter of three minutes, was reported by the News on 29 May.

Next another victim was nearly robbed by the suspects on 10 June. The victim managed to take a photographed of one of the suspect’s matching the other victim’s description.

The scamsters struck again on 19 June when a woman was targeted in Krugersdorp West and on 1 July an elderly couple lost their monthly pension after attempting to withdraw money from an ATM in Rant-en-Dal.

But on 24 July Krugersdorp police finally managed to arrest three suspects matching the descriptions of the scamsters.

A statement from the police claims that a suspect was following a woman who was attempting to withdraw money at an ATM in Commissioner Street when they attempted to steal her card.

“Police then followed up on the information concerning the suspects and managed to close in on them. They were taken into police custody and arrested at the station for attempted theft of a bank card. The suspects have appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court in an ongoing investigation,” Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp police, said.

An investigation is underway to link the suspects with the other incidents.

The News will follow up on the exact details that led to the arrest of the suspect.
