Two children saved from house fire

Two children were rescued after two rooms in a house in Kenmare caught fire.

Two children were rescued from their house in Kenmare after it had caught fire last night, 23 July.

Members of the Sector 8 Community Policing Forum (CPF) were called to the scene at approximately 6pm with Dowry Emergency Response arriving shortly after them.

CPF and security members started extinguishing the fire by means of a fire extinguisher and a hosepipe from a neighbour’s house.

Mogale City Emergency Services also arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the call-out.

CPF members had to block off the scene and make way for emergency services and ER24 to enter the scene as curious residents converged to get a glimpse of the commotion.

It is believe that two children, a boy and girl, were alone in the house when the fire broke out. It allegedly started in the kitchen and spread to the next room.

Later a woman arrived on the scene and took the two children for a medical examination after they had complained that their chests were hurting – probably from inhaling smoke.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown, but it is believed paper in the house caught alight somehow.
