Beauty through a camera lens

Krugersdorp's Camera Club is looking for new talent to join. And it's free.

Did you know Krugersdorp has a Camera Club? And that it has been running for 85 years and that anyone can join?

Cobus Eksteen, chairman of the club, says they are looking for young talent.

“Krugersdorp has so many talented photographers,” he said.

If you like to snap away at objects around you, you can share your talents with all the other snappers of Krugersdorp tonight, 16 July at 7pm.

“You can find us at the Golden Age Village Hall in Heading Street. And it’s free!”

Cobus’ parents and former members of the club encourages beginner and advanced photographers alike to pay a visit. Cobus’ mother, Bokkie, says the club has a relaxed atmosphere and it is a good opportunity to improve on your snapping skills.

One of the members, Braam de Klerk, joined in 2012. He is very proud of the club and thankful for being able to see the world through a lens so that every beautiful moment can be captured.

“I really wanted to start a creative hobby and I wanted to experience new natural surroundings. And there was no better place to start than at one of the top five photographic clubs in the country.”

All photos entered by members every meeting is projected on a big screen, judged and awarded points. A junior and senior winning photo is determined by the judges for the night.

Every meeting, held once a month, has a new subject. The subject for July was a photo with a shallow depth of field in sport.

If you don’t know what shallow depth of field is, the camera club assures you you will learn things like that very quickly.

Braam also says this creative hobby could turn out be a major source of income in the future. After all, there is always someone’s wedding, family or birthday that needs to be photographed.
