Assault suspect to appear in court

Sakkie van Loggerenberg was assaulted with fists by the suspect which caused him to sustain serious head injuries.

The man accused of assaulting and killing an elderly man on Saturday 27 June will be making an appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

Constable Tshepiso Mashale, a police spokesperson said the 25-year-old suspect was arrested and will face murder charges following a road rage incident in Moorcroft Street in Krugersdorp West.

“It is alleged the victim was driving with his wife when the driver of the other vehicle bumped into his vehicle.”

Both drivers stopped where after Sakkie van Loggerenberg, 60, was assaulted with fists by the suspect which caused him to sustain serious head injuries.

He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital, but was declared brain dead yesterday, 28 June.

Mashale said it is alleged that Van Loggerenberg’s wife was also assaulted by the suspect.
