Gymnasts take Cape Town by storm

The Club managed to bag a total of 43 medals.

A group of 15 gymnasts from the Visions Gymnastics Club took top honours at this year’s High Performance National Gymnastics Championships held in Cape Town earlier this month.

Derick Scholtz, head coach is in ecstasy about the 43 medals his gymnasts brought back home.

Gymnasts Riccardo Colandrea, Gabriella Colandrea, Ruan Lange and Juan Crous from Krugersdorp represented not only their Club but also the Gauteng province.

The twins Riccardo and Gabriella both achieved an overall second in the main event. Riccardo claimed two gold and a silver during apparatus finals and Gabriella three gold medals.

Ruan and Juan both ended in third overall place in their respective main events and they too added another few medals to the tally.

Ruan received a gold and silver medal respectively and Juan racked up a gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

These four gymnasts will later this year form part of a squad to compete for a spot in the Protea gymnastics team to the African Gymnastics championships next year.

Visions Club captain, Bianca Mann competed in the senior Olympic section. Following her success in international World Cup performances, Bianca claimed the most prestigious title known as the South African Gymnastics title and received a gold, silver and three bronze medals in the apparatus finals on day two of her competition.

“To make her achievements more extraordinary she did this in the midst of her university exams,” Derick said.

“We are very proud of these gymnasts’ achievements and this will catapult the new generation to believe they too can become South Africa’s best.”
