Supplier warehouse up in flames

Krugersdorp EMS were deployed to a burning storage warehouse in Chamdor.

A local business owner and wholesale supplier in Chamdor stood by as his business went up in flames after a fire broke out this morning, 30 April.

Krugersdorp Emergency Management Services (EMS) firefighters received a call out at 6.40am about the fire in the warehouse and arrived on the scene within seven minutes.

The day shift station officer, Conrad Rheeder told the News on the scene that on arrival at the unit, heavy smoke could be seen gushing from above the corrugated iron sheets of the roof.

The fire is what the EMS call a free burning phase fire, which means the flammable items were burning inside of the storage unit.

“The team responded immediately and started extinguishing the flames, ventilated the area and finished off by damping down the fire,” comments Rheeder.

Brave fire fighters from Krugersdorp work to extinguish a fire that started in a warehouse.

Fortunately there were no injuries obtained during the fire and thanks to the swift reaction of the firefighters, they managed to save two of the company vehicles and a handful of stock.

Due to the nature of the fire, the warehouse unit along with the office have extensive smoke damage.

The owner was present when the fire started inside of the storage unit which was stacked with nappies, eggs and cold drinks.

It is believed that the owner, who is not insured, lost hundreds of thousands of rands worth of stock as he watched his business which he built up the past 10 years, go up in flames.
