Surviving drugs with Dynamix

An ex-drug addict tells how locals helped him turn his life around.

Fifteen years of a drug hell is finally over for a drug addict who turned his life around with the help of The Dynamix Group.

The Dynamix Group was formed by The Bethany House Trust and New Seasons Ministries which officially kicked off their aftercare program in February and now meet every Saturday afternoon to assist the community.

One of their success stories, which dates back to before the group was formed, has agreed to speak to the News about his drug struggle.

Mr X was addicted to drugs for 15 years and has since picked up the broken pieces and started rebuilding his life.

“I was using drugs every day, the whole day for at least the last 11 years of my life, so in other words I was hooked good and solid.”

The drugs not only affected his schoolwork, but also his relationships with his family and friends which led him to get involved with the wrong people.

“Later on after high school it led to even worse friendships, not completing my studies, problems at work, criminal activities like stealing and it caused much grief in my relationship with my wife and our children through my actions as a result of the alcohol and drug abuse.”

At a point in his life when the drugs were in control, Mr X went as far as lying about everything, stealing from those who love him and manipulating everyone he came in contact with just for him to get his next hit.

“It reached a point where it was no longer fun, I could not help myself anymore and everything just spiraled out of control.”

With the help and support of members of the Bethany House back then, Mr X managed turn his life around for good.

Mr X will be turning 35 years old later this year and has been free of the claws of drugs for eight years and counting.

“I have a good job, I am busy doing my degree, I am happily married, I am healthy and my relationship with God and my family has been restored.”
