Robbed in broad daylight

Police arrests armed robbery suspect after they launched a manhaunt.

Kagiso Police busted a robber in the CBD.

On 5 March a 33-year-old suspect was arrested in central Kagiso for armed robbery that he allegedly committed in broad daylight in 2013.

It is believed the victim was walking with a friend along the Mokale shops in Joshua Doore when they were confronted by two suspects.

The suspects who were in a grey Ford at the time of the robbery, stopped next to the victim and pretended to ask for directions.

“Suddenly the driver jumped out and pulled the complainants into his vehicle. His accomplice who was in the passenger seat drew a knife and demanded the complainants’ cellphones,” said Soloman Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police.

The suspects took a number of cellphones, which included a Nokia E6, a Samsung Galaxy Ace 5 and a Nokia C5.

The suspects then pushed the victims from the vehicle and sped away.

“The police launched an investigation and manhunt for the two suspects. Through community involvement the police received a tip-off on one of the suspects’ whereabouts and managed to make an arrest,” said Sibiya.

The suspect has been detained at the Kagiso Police Station and is due to appear briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon. The suspect is facing charges of armed robbery. His accomplice is still in hiding.
