Stray dog attacks woman

A woman from Noordheuwel was attacked by a stray Jack Russell.

A stray dog attacked a resident while she was gardening.

Bernice Nel from Lindhout Street in Noordheuwel was mowing her lawn when she heard her dogs barking vigorously.

“That is when I noticed a strange dog, a Jack Russell, in my garden. My dogs tried chasing it, but could not catch it.”

According to Nel there was no possibility that the other dog was after a female dog in heat because all her dogs are males.

This unknown, stray Jack Russell bit Bernice Nel from Noordheuwel on her left foot.

“When I opened the gate for it to leave my property, it grabbed me by my left foot. Then it tried attacking me a second time while growling at me. The dog really was vicious.”

Bernice said it is not the first time the dog was seen on her property and days after this incident it was spotted again.

“The dog appears to be well looked after.”

The SPCA was contacted after Nel was bitten the first time, but by the time their inspectors arrived the dog had vanished.

“I am worried – what if the dog gets hold of a child or even an elderly person walking their dogs in the street!”

She said the dog has been spotted running up and down the street several times. She hopes through this article the owner will take responsibility and keep the dog off the streets.

Bernice’s foot with the bite wound a stray Jack Russell had caused.

Nel had to seek medical attention for the wound to her foot.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s by-laws stipulate that roaming animals and pets may be impounded by the SPCA if found abandoned, causing public nuance and pose a danger.

Nel said the owner or anyone who has information about whose dog it is, can contact her on 082 750 8481.
