Curious members of the public along with emergency workers, detectives from the Krugersdorp Police and paramedics rushed to the area near Jack Taylor Airfield after learning about the light aircraft crash.
The beautiful mountainous scenery along Thomas Jackson Road had become the setting of the tragedy as it was confirmed that both the learner pilot and his instructor were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rumour has it that the light aircraft crashed into the side of the ridge shortly after taking off.
The learner pilot’s girlfriend was also at the scene. She was overcome with emotion when she was kept away from her boyfriend’s remains, sending shivers down the spines of those trying to assist.
Police did their best to console her.
The news was informed that EMS received an emergency call at one minute past noon today and quickly informed local police and Netcare 911 paramedics about the incident.
When the news left the scene at 2pm police were waiting for another helicopter to assist in removing the bodies from the wreckage.
It is alleged that the bodies will be taken to the Roodepoort mortuary for a postmortem.
