[AUDIO and GRAPHIC] Plane crash: eyewitness share what he saw

He heard a plane flying around in the area and a few minutes later it crashed in the koppie a few kilometres away.

He heard a strange noise and then he saw how a light aircraft crashed right in front of his eyes.

Jonathan Thiel, an employee at Sureguide in Delporton and his co-worker Ivan van Rensburg were some of the first people on the scene after the plane crashed moments after noon today.

There they made the tragic discovery of the two occupants who were killed in the crash

“There is always a lot of air activity around our offices. I then heard a plane climbing up, but instead of the normal sound of climbing up I could hear there was a dip in the sound of the engine so I quickly popped my head out of the door at our offices,” said Thiel.

“And that is when I saw the plane starting to stall – the nose went forward and then I saw the power increasing again. He picked the nose up and then it looked like he stalled a second time at that point.”

Thiel said the plane then rolled to the right hand side before it began to dive and then crashed into the ground.

“We made our way to the koppie outside our offices and then down the side of the hill before arriving at the scene about 15 to 20 minutes later.”

There they made the tragic discovery of the two occupants who were killed in the crash.

“It looked like it was an instructor and his student.”

The names of the deceased cannot be made public until the families have been notified.
