Mother and daughter chop off hair for Cansa

"It was so wonderful to see the community supporting us and coming together to create awareness."

Wendy Groenewald and her daughter Kim both had beautiful, long and lush hair, but that was before they decided to chop it all off as part of a cancer awareness challenge.

The mother and daughter duo decided to take the plunge in loving memory of Groenewald’s mother.

They also hosted a Cansa (Cancer Association of South Africa) Shavathon event at Krugersdorp High School and managed to raise around R3 000 with their efforts.

Family, friends and community members flocked to the school to help support Groenewald by either shaving their hair or spraying it with a funky colour spray. They also sold boerewors rolls, cold drinks, popcorn and sweets to help raise funds.

“It was so wonderful to see the community supporting us and coming together to create awareness,” says Groenewald.
