Pupils arrive at farewell in style

The aim is to put a smile on their faces and to prevent a situation where some are driven to the function by flashy cars and others by taxis.

The Beermers SA and the Soweto Mini Coopers clubs made the matric farewell of the disadvantaged pupils of the Thuto-lefa Secondary School in Munsieville very special when they drove them to their matric dance recently.

The group of BMW and Mini Cooper owners decided to give back to the community of Munsieville by driving more than 100 pupils to Usambara where the farewell was held.

Tshepo Motswasele, the group’s events coordinator and a member of the Beemer says his colleagues saw the need to host the event aimed at promoting the culture of learning and teaching as well as assisting needy pupils.

“We decided that we needed to assist the disadvantaged pupils in enjoying their matric dance. We realised some pupils come from well-to-do families and some come from disadvantaged families,” Motswasele says.

“The aim is to put a smile on their faces and to prevent a situation where some are driven to the function by flashy cars and others by taxis. We then suggested that all the pupils be driven in Mini Coopers and BMWs.

“This worked well for us because all the pupils were equal on the day and no one was regarded better than the others because he or she comes from a rich family. We hope to do this every year and create a good relationship between community members and the school,” Motswasele adds.
