Arrested for bribing police

Tarlton Police is setting a good example by not accepting a bribe after issuing a man a traffic fine.

A 29-year-old man was arrested when he tried to bribe a police officer who had issued him a traffic fine.

Lucky Matome, spokesperson for the Tarlton Police Station says the police was doing regular stop-and-search operations yesterday 30 September.

“We stopped the driver of a bakkie. When he was asked to produce a driver’s licence or any other form of identification he was unable to,” says Matome.

“He then offered the police officer R200 not to issue him a traffic fine.”

The driver was arrested and currently is being held at the Krugersdorp Police Station. He will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Tarlton’s Action Station Commander, Captain Sam Nkhumane applauds the officer for not accepting the bribe and encourages the police to arrest anybody who attempts to bribe them.
