Three men behind bars for hijacking cigarette truck

The trio faces charges of hijacking, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Three men are behind bars after hijacking a delivery truck in Kagiso.

According to a police statement the men hijacked a cigarette delivery vehicle and fled in a minibus taxi on Wednesday 6 August.

“Police officers tracked down a white Toyota Quantum on Impala Road in Protea Glen, which the suspects loaded the cigarettes into following the hijacking,” the statement reads.

They monitored the vehicle until it stopped at a traffic sign where police swiftly apprehended the suspects.

The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed firearm and boxes of different cigarettes were recovered.

The suspects are due to appear in court facing charges of hijacking, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
