Mall hit by thieves – again

A group of people allegedly entered the store, Fabiani, and stole stock.

A men’s clothing store in Cradlestone Mall was robbed by a group of people who allegedly fled with an undisclosed amount of merchandise.

The mall has been a constant target for criminal activity, the last being an armed robbery at Browns jewellery store in June.

In July two shoplifters were caught stealing clothes from the shop Factorie and were apprehended quickly by security after the panic alarm was triggered. Subsequently they were banned from the shop.

On Tuesday 5 August, a group of people allegedly entered the store, Fabiani, and stole stock.

The group then managed to get away in two vehicles, one being a VW Caddy. Unfortunately the mall’s security cameras could not pick up the number plates.

The matter was reported to police.

The Centre Manager of Cradlestone Mall Cara Grobler confirms the incident and says that their security footage shows a group of nine men entering the mall through a service passage and then going  into the store.

“No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident. The perpetrators left the store within a matter of minutes, taking merchandise with them,” says Grobler.

“Mall management and security are assisting the SAPS with their investigation. A case has been opened and we have provided CCTV footage of the incident to the SAPS. We will continue to support the police in any way possible.

“We would like to commend our security and the SAPS for their swift response.

“The safety of our shoppers, retailers and their staff is of the utmost importance to us. There are extensive security measures in place at the mall, which are assessed on an ongoing basis. We will also undertake our own full investigation of the incident together with our security advisors.”
