The tourism sector of Mogale City is booming according to the outcome of the recent West Rand Tourism Awards.
This year there were nine categories and 24 sub-categories, and Mogale City’s tourism sector secured 33 awards out of the 41 that were handed out.
These are the Mogale City winners:
Accommodation category
• Tsitsi B&B, Pub & Restaurant won gold for best township accommodation.
• Stone Hill won gold and Nullarbor Cottages won silver in the self-catering accommodation category.
• Valverde Country Hotel received gold for the best three-star hotel.
• Hibon Lodge won silver in the four-star guest house category.
• Valley Lodge & Spa received gold and Silverstar Casino won silver in the four-star lodge/hotel category.
• Forum Homini Hotel & Roots Restaurant got gold and Budmarsh Country Lodge received silver in the five-star lodge/hotel category.
Food and Beverage
• In the township tavern category Nextdoor Pub & Restaurant was awarded silver.
• Reiketlile Pub & Restaurant and Tso’s Butchery, Fast Food & Pub received gold and silver respectively for the township pub & restaurant category.
• The Restaurant – Alfresco category saw EnGedi Bistro walking away with the gold award.
• Valley Lodge & Spa received gold for the Restaurant – Buffet category while Billy G at Silverstar Casino got silver.
• Roots Restaurant won gold and Budmarsh Country Lodge got silver in the Restaurant – Fine Dining category.
Conference and Wedding Venues
• In the Township Functions and Events category 1st Choice Lapa won silver.
• Silverstar Casino and Maropeng a’ Africa Leisure won gold and silver respectively in the large conference, functions and events venues category.
• Valley Lodge & Spa won gold in the small conference, functions, events and wedding venues category.
Guides
• Mathabela Tsikoane, a guide at the Sterkfontein Caves won gold as cultural site guide.
• Daniel Bridger and Aubrey Ramosala from Sundowner Adventures both won gold in the adventure guide category.
• Sundowner Adventures won gold in the best outdoor experience category.
Tour operators
• Jelani Transfer and Tours won gold in this category.
Tourism Experience
• Maropeng Visitor Centre won gold in the best educational experience category.
• Sundowner Adventures won gold in the best outdoor experience category.
Tourism Experience
• In the best spa category Soulstice Day Spa and Valley Lodge & Spa received gold and silver respectively.
Special Award
• In the best emerging establishment category Oukasi Restaurant won gold.
Special Categories
• Valverde Country Hotel won gold in the responsible tourism category.
• Jelani Transfer and Tours won gold in the tourism ambassador category.
The WRDM Executive Mayor’s Award
• Maropeng a’ Africa Leisure won the best for 2014 overall category for being the best tourism establishment on the West Rand.
• Reiketlile Pub & Restaurant won for being the best township tourism establishment on the West Rand.
