Two survive plane crash at local airfield

Two men walked away with minor injuries following a plane crash at a Krugersdorp airfield.

Scattered air plane parts and a cloud of smoke had bystanders in a panic after a SAAB Safir small aircraft crashed into an embankment near the Jack Taylor airfield on Monday afternoon (16 June).

Fortunately both people in the plane, pilot Brian Cloete and passenger Christo van Niekerk survived.

According to Dale de Klerk, eyewitness and owner of Alpi Aviation, Van Niekerk sustained the most injuries with scrapes to his body, but was discharged from hospital the next day.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

The news plans to interview Cloete and Van Niekerk – who also is a pilot – once the investigation has been concluded as the two airplane enthusiasts’ apparently aren’t quite ready to give up their passion despite the scare.
