UPDATE: Missing police officer found

The missing Krugersdorp police officer's body has been found.

The missing police officer, Warrant Officer Thabo Mahlaba who was allegedly kidnapped, has been found.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Mahlaba’s decomposed body was found in a veld in Randfontein around 9am this morning (18 June) by mine workers.

His cause of death has not been determined and will be the subject of a police investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Police officer mysteriously goes missing

Kagiso Police are appealing to members of the public to assist in tracing a missing police officer, Warrant Officer Thabo Abednigo Mahlaba (50).

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Mahlaba’s wife reported him missing on Friday (6 June). He was last seen at Kagiso Police Station on Thursday 5 June.

It is alleged that on Thursday he went to withdraw money at an Absa ATM in Krugersdorp and never returned.

Police have since launched a search.

Mahlaba is about 1,69 metres tall, well-built and light in complexion. He also limps when he walks.

He was wearing a black cap, blue men’s jeans, a denim jacket and a pair of formal shoes.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact investigating officer Warrant Officer Lucky Ndlovu on 082 589 5025 or 011 696 9000.
