Police received a tip-off from the community about four men who robbed a shop in Chief Mogale on Thursday (12 June).
According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale the men took cellphones, groceries, airtime vouchers, cigarettes and cash before fleeing the scene.
“The tip-off and information by the public put police on the suspects’ track resulting in a high-speed chase,” she says. “During the chase the suspects lost control of their vehicle and hit a wall.”
All four men survived the accident and while they were getting out of the car they shot at police officer who retaliated by wounding one suspect in the foot. The remaining three suspects fled the scene.
According to Mashale the injured suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.
Two firearms and stolen goods were recovered.
