Muscle (wo)men gather for a greater cause

Some of the country's best-known muscle men visit Krugersdorp for a good cause.

Local fitness guru Susan Fourie, better known as Princess Susan from the Gladiator TV series, recently launched her own line of fitness and health supplements.

The launch of her Aroeka Supplements and the opening of her store in Krugersdorp not only saw a gathering of South Africa’s toughest muscle men and women, it also was a fundraiser for a good cause. Some of the proceeds of the event went to assisting abused women and children.

Well-known names in the fitness industry such as André Sweeney – the second strongest man in South Africa – his wife and national power-lifting champion Vallerie and world body building champion John Lesley all showed their softer sides by attending the event in support of the cause.

The Sweeney couple provided the entertainment by lifting some heavy weights and flipping large tyres in a record time.

Fourie provided entertainment of a different kind when she showed off her rope-skipping skills that helped her to secure a place for her in the Guinness World Book of Records for the most skips in a minute – in high heels!
