Toddler dies after drinking petrol

A three-year-old toddler from Kagiso died in hospital after consuming petrol while playing outside.

According to Kagiso SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya the child’s mother told the police that the toddler was playing in the backyard while her uncle was working on a car.

The mother explained that the petrol was kept in a cold drink bottle and said that the child must have mistaken the liquid for cold drink.

“The child was rushed to hospital after the accident on Saturday 26 April, but later died,” says Sibiya.

Police suspects no foul play and confirmed that an inquest docket was opened.
