Elderly woman tied up by two 17-year-olds

Two suspected robbers remain in police custody after having their case postponed in court.

Two seventeen-year-olds appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on 3 March after being arrested in connection with a robbery in Krugersdorp on 28 February.

According to Krugersdorp SAPS spokesperson Tshepiso Mashale the suspects jumped the wall at a Krugersdorp North residence and came across an elderly woman sitting on the veranda.

“They overpowered the woman and took her into a room where she was forced to sit on the floor while they tied her hands,” she says.

It is alleged that the suspects demanded money and jewellery and threatened to kill the victim if they couldn’t find what they were looking for.

They ransacked the house and fled the scene with jewellery shortly afterwards.

Minutes after the suspects had fled the scene the victim’s neighbour heard a cry for help and alerted the police.

The neighbour also took down a description of the suspects as given by the victim.

Two men fitting the description were spotted by the neighbour at the Krugersdorp taxi rank later that day and police were alerted for a second time.

“The two suspects were apprehended at the rank and taken into police custody after being found in possession of the property stolen earlier that day,” says Mashale.

The suspects accused of robbery had their case postponed in court.

Mashale commends the officers and neighbour that made the arrest possible.
