Tarlton educated on gender based violence

Gauteng Department of Community Safety visits Tarlton as part the 16 Days of Activism camphaing against woman and child abuse.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tarlton, took to the streets of Tarlton and surrounding areas on Thursday, 5 December to educate communities on gender based violence.

The campaign served as part of the 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children.

During the interactions with community members domestic violence was one of the highlighted social crimes.

According Department of Community safety spokesperson Thapelo Moila to domestic violence crimes are prevalent in the Tarlton area and is mostly attributed to alcohol abuse.

“The purpose of the event was to inform residents about the importance of reporting these and any other form of crime or abuse to the police, irrespective of who the perpetrator is,” he says.

Communities were also advised on how to form street committees and join the patroller movement which all seeks to ensure proactive reporting of cases and maintaining levels of safety in the area.
