Police seize illegal weapons and ammunition

Among other 662 live rounds of ammunition and nine firearms were found.

The Krugersdorp Cluster Police seized firearms, magazines and live rounds of ammunition after they received a tip-off while on a special operation in Randfontein.

The police managed to arrest a 64-year-old suspect on Laumarina Farm on 16 October at about 8.50am for illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition.

Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya, a police spokesperson says they received information about a suspect who was heavily armed.

“The police searched the area and found five assorted rifles, four pistols, three magazines of a 7.65 pistol, two magazines of a 9mm pistol, a .22 rifle magazine and 662 live rounds of ammunition.”

Newenya says the suspect was arrested and detained in Randfontein police custody where a case docket of illegal possession of arms and ammunition was registered.

He appeared briefly in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court this week.
