Water disruptions reflects poor service delivery

"This again reflects the level of poor service delivery and incompetence that goes with it."

The continuous water supply disruption from the Kenmare Reservoir over the past couple of months has left large areas of Krugersdorp without water.

“Mogale City Department of Water should have taken cognisance of the level of severity of the situation a long time ago,” says Councillor Amanda de Lange, Freedom Front Plus Media spokesperson.

With no prior warning or notification from Mogale City, residents were left with no water to what will be a rather smelly start to the spring month.

Apart from household difficulties, a huge concern are places of congregation of people such as schools, businesses, hospitals, shops, etc.with no proper sanitation. This situation poses a serious health and safety threat for people in the affected areas.

“It would be wise for Mogale City to involve the West Rand District Municipality’s Disaster Management right from the start to ensure damage control as best as possible.”

There is not much information forthcoming from the city council’s relevant department other than the reservoir being identified for infrastructure refurbishment after it was found to be leaking.

“This exercise is expected to last until Saturday 28 September.

“Although it is understandable that maintenance will be done from time to time with minimum disruption to residents, it is totally unreasonable for Mogale City to wait until such a crisis occurs before upsetting households for a whole month at a time,”says De Lange.

“This again reflects the level of poor service delivery and incompetence that goes with it.”
