Fatal collision on Kromdraai Road

A 50-year-old man sustained fatal injuries after colliding with the back of a stationary truck.

A 50-year-old man sustained fatal injuries on the morning of 10 August at about 7.30am when his bakkie crashed into the back of a stationary truck on the Kromdraai Road in Muldersdrift.

The ER24 Specialised Medical Services Department was conducting a route inspection for a cycling event in the area when they came across the incident.

Werner Vermaak, a communications manager for ER24 says that paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found the man behind the steering wheel of the vehicle.

“Sadly there was nothing that paramedics could do to revive him and he was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the truck could not be found on the scene.”

Pieter van Aswegen who is an avid cyclist says that he was riding his bicycle on this road a few days before the incident and saw the stationary truck with no driver in sight.

“I informed authorities about this truck. I told them that it was in a dangerous zone as it was on the cycling route and on a dangerous turn.”

He says that when he was riding on the same route he saw that someone had driven into the truck and sustained fatal injuries.

“I believe that if something was done about this stationary truck a precious life would not have been lost.”

The case was handed over to the Mogale Traffic Police for investigation.
