Old age home enjoys Christmas in July

There are tens of thousands of elderly people in South Africa who cannot exist on the allowances provided by the state.

Building on the seeds of goodwill of Nelson Mandela Day, the staff and leadership of LG Electronics South Africa extended their hand of generosity when they visited Môreglans Old Age Home.

The outreach saw LG donate products, host a blanket and soup drive and spend time with the elderly.

Established in 1910, the 103-year-old care centre is home to 100 elderly people from the surrounding townships.

The themed ‘Christmas in July’ visit ensured that each one of them was left feeling warm and loved.

The visit included a blanket for each resident of the home and LG products, including two large flat screens TVs, two microwave ovens, four washing machines, a tumble dryer and a dishwasher.

“Our contribution is a message to the elderly and the community as a whole that they are not alone and that there are people standing with them, who care deeply about their welfare,” says Thomas van der Linde, General Manager Marketing for LG Electronics South Africa.

There are tens of thousands of elderly people in South Africa who cannot exist on the allowances provided by the state and their plight is made far worse during the winter months.

“The home is a safe haven for the most vulnerable and it gives us great pleasure to be in a position to help where we can,” says Môreglans Old Age Home Manager, Gerrie van Rooyen.

“We are grateful to LG for the contribution. It is sure to help us improve the quality of life for our elderly and meet their growing demands,” concludes Van Rooyen.
