No injuries in truck accident at crossing of death

A large truck overturned at the infamous crossing of death, however, no one was injured in the accident.

A truck travelling on the R28, metres away from the Pinehaven and Hendrik Potgieter Road interchange overturned when its brakes allegedly failed.

After the truck overturned, the two lane road was reduced to one and traffic started to congest during peak hour traffic in the early evening of 21 June.

It is alleged that the accident happened just before 5pm.

“I can’t disclose any information,” said the officer in charge of the accident scene, Robert Msimango of the Mogale City Traffic Department.

Fortunately no one was hurt.

“They definitely have to do something about this road,” said the officer ironically.

Traffic congestion caused by an overturned truck on the R28 on 21 June.

The truck was transporting two trailers full of what is believed to be cotton seeds and at 6.30pm the scene had still not been cleared.

The tow truck driver on the scene, who had received authorisation to tow the truck, was denied access by the Mogale City Traffic Department officer.

“You cannot impound the truck as there were no fatalities,” said Msimango to the tow truck driver who was simply following orders from the insurance company.

It is not clear what the exact cause of the accident was, but it is believed that the accident may have been caused by a brake failure.

The cause is still under investigation.
