Mogale City mayor resigns – effective immediately

Following the council meeting, it has been confirmed that Mogale City Executive Mayor Danny Thupane has resigned.

Following the 10th Ordinary Council meeting for Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) today, October 16, it has been confirmed that Executive Mayor Danny Thupane has resigned.

In a public letter written by Thupane, circulating on social media and community groups, it states that after a meeting with members of his political party, the African Transformation Movement, and the African National Congress, he has resigned with immediate effect.

It is reported that Thupane announced his resignation shortly before a motion of no confidence was set to take place during the council meeting.

MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu confirmed the news, however, they are yet to provide more details about the resignation.

“Given that today’s proceedings primarily involve a political process concerning executive matters, protocol dictates that such enquiries be managed accordingly. Do however note the municipality’s corporate communications team will assist in directing any enquiries and may serve as an additional point of contact,” Mahlangu said.
