Fire station receives much-needed paint job
For the first time since 2006, the Krugersdorp fire station is being repainted.
After years of neglectful maintenance, the West Rand District Municipality fire stations have become an eyesore. The paint has peeled off and exposed different-coloured patches, requiring a much-needed paint job.
West Rand Emergency Services regional commander Gerhard Nieuwoudt said the Krugersdorp fire station was last painted in 2006. In July, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) decided to allocate funds to repaint all the stations in the area.
“We are currently in phase one of the painting which started in the last week of September and is expected to be done soon,” Gerhard excitedly said.
“They chipped away the old paint, painted an undercoat, weather-sealed it and are in the process of painting the final coat. It is also a grey colour because it is the most UV protectant. This should last at least 10 years and there are also plans to paint the interior,” Gerhard concluded.
