Mogale City scoops award for good community service

Mogale City is commended for its efforts to bring awareness to gender-based violence.

Mogale City is proud to be among the municipalities that have partnered with The World of Impact Organisation to combat Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in communities through participation in the impactful ‘End GBVF – 100 Days’ initiative.

The social development team also announced being recently recognised with a South African Local Government Association (SALGA) excellence award for their outstanding contribution to the challenge.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the team was recognised as the top performer among Gauteng municipalities for its Nutritional Support Programme sponsored by SALGA and the Council for Debt Collectors.

“This programme focuses on identifying youth and child-headed households in need of support, with municipal social workers playing a key role in the selection of families that can benefit.”

Mahlangu added through the collaborative efforts of social work interventions and partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders, significant strides were made.

“Among these intercessions, identified children were returned to school, some placed under the foster care of siblings, and others joined the municipality’s Expanded Public Works Programme to earn an income. In addition, some individuals got permanent employment and moved off the system, with one family even moving into an RDP house thanks to these interventions.”
