Mogale darts members hit the bullseye in Bloem

Mogale Darts Association hit the bullseye at the National Darts Championships.

The Mogale City Darts Association, which proudly represents Krugersdorp, the West Rand and Gauteng, continues to impress in the darts arena.

Having competed in the National Darts Championships in Bloemfontein last month, the club had 12 of its members give it their all.

According to the club’s general secretary Ronel Heyman, the National Championships saw over 970 taking part in various categories such as the provincial men’s category, the master’s category and the inter-district category. Members of the association who went to represent the Gauteng Women’s team won the gold medal were Tanya Stols and Ronel Hayman who were the standout players.

“In the ladies singles category, Tanya Stols is the current National Ladies Singles Champion 2024. It is the first time in darts history that a player won the singles event two years in a row. She also did not lose a leg from the top 16 games to the finals where she beat her opponent 4–0. She was then re-selected as Protea player to represent South Africa at the World Cup in South Korea in 2025 and I was selected as Protea to represent South Africa at the Africa Region Union Zone V Championships in Malawi in 2025 as well,” Ronel said.

Ronel also confirmed that the recent success adds to an impressive list of milestones already achieved before the team participated in the championships.

“We successfully introduced darts at Hoërskool Monument. Their learners were invited to the Gauteng Youth Day Championships that was hosted on June 16 where they came third. We then produced a total of four youth and three senior Protea players over some time. We are also affiliated with the South African Disability Darts Association and we can proudly say we have 14 disabled players who will participate in the disabled trials in early 2025 for selection to the Disabled National Championships.”

“Our teams participated in the Inter District Championships in April, the Gauteng Championships in May, the Masters Championships in early June and the National Championships at the end of June. We will be entering teams in the South African Masters Tournament at the end of July and various teams in the Gauteng Currie Cup Championships in August.”
