Municipality urges youth to take charge

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) is giving 20 bursaries to students in celebration of Youth Month.

To mark the beginning and celebration of Youth Month, Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) along with the Umnotho Community and Bread of Life Christian Church presented an exciting opportunity for Grade 12 learners of Matla Combined School during a career expo exhibition.

The expo was held at Olera Farm in Kromdraai on June 12 and sought to guide learners toward choosing career paths that best align with their passions and skills. The occasion was also a platform to encourage youth and other role-players for safer communities through a variety of stakeholders making presentations on the subject matter of crime in addition to career talk and entrepreneurship.

Executive mayor Danny Thupane aligned himself to this year’s Youth Month theme: Actively advancing socioeconomic gains of our democracy, and encouraged learners to demonstrate dedication in their education, respect educators and foster social cohesion.

He further explained in detail his plans.

“As we want ministers, directors, and accountants among you, we have decided as a municipality that we are going to assist such go-getters in the city who are willing to study in specialised fields including engineering, accounting, and agriculture.

“We are giving 20 bursaries to students who are going to study in those specialised fields. So, the ball is in your court to be counted among those who will be awarded those bursaries to reach your full potential,” the mayor concluded.

As a token of appreciation to the school and learners, the mayor handed out 90 Mogale City branded back bags containing lunch boxes and pencil cases.
